Lessons from the little people , Mindfull Collaborations and Tasting Menu’s

Wow , It’s been an eventfull start to the month of April

Firstly , we’d like to give a massive shout out to Sufra Community Kitchen for allowing the troops to have full run of the space throughout the Easter Holiday , The staff at Sufra do  amazing work in St Raphaels estate and surrounding areas of Brent from Food Academies to Community Dinners  , the reality of Food Poverty in Brent was apparent during the week we visited , but the work and opportunities they offer help to put a smile on so many faces …

If you are unable to visit personally , you can help to make a difference by buying someone a hot meal …20160409_163315(1)

Check back next week for an interview with Faheem , Project Worker

So , talking about Sufra brings us back to this time last week , we were inundated with little people , Juicers and blenders going full throttle

We counted a minimum of 52 little people who came through the Juice Academy door last week , many others had to be turned away due to health and safety and capacity at Sufra

Amazingly enough 4 of those who stayed the week , were 3 years of age and although they weren’t able to take part in all the activities, they took part in planting seeds , drawing and made fruity Salads and handed their homework journals in on a daily basis ..

Muadh , 3 Years Old – Completed 6 days of training

Quick , Grab a fruit and take a pic …

When piloting or launching something new , there’s always a possibility of not getting it right .. that’s fine , you learn to add what you left out or take a few ingredients out

So there were definitely lessons learnt in regard to workshop delivery but all in all the stdents successfully

  • Learnt the benefits of Juicing
  • Took part in interactive Juicing Workshops
  • Tested their taste buds
  • Planted their own Root Vegetables and Flowers
  • And enjoyed a day behind the scenes at Tesco

The amazing lesson ?

Children value the knowledge and responsibility given and embrace the transferred skill with confidence and pride and have a “How , can we make this better ” rather than “Whose going to make it better ” way of thinking and seeing things  … they were an honour to work with .

It was a joy to see them getting their hands dirty … and sincerely having fun with their food … And an achievement to get 4 Bored teenagers involved , arriving daily and on time , throughout the week . So we’d like to give them a massive shout out for taking time out to help deliver the programme !

Another thank you to the parents turned facilitators in the week , although #TeamApple were disappointed that they didn’t get the chance to present their Apple Turnover’s they had fun practising  …

We will upload pictures to the Gallery …

So , about April ...

20160404_155655We’re sitting here reflecting on the journey and how a polarity of circumstances over the years has threatened to put an end to our juicy adventures but something quite manificent has kept us going .. call it “The love of what we do ” … if you will ..

Funny , it all started rom a Second hand table outside of a Trinidadian Roti Shop to Award Winning Ceremonies at the B.T Tower …

We’ve been raising awareness about the benefits of drinking Juices and Smoothies in and around London ever since and we are confident that we can make it easier for people to make healthier life choices

Who are we ?

Punch and Juicy are an award winning Social Enterprise who aim to promote the benefits of healthy drinking by popping up in various locations either as an outlet or in the form of a workshop facilitator

Punch and Juuicy

So whose actually behind 80% the Social Media Posts ?

Yes .. Well about those ,

Bit of a hit and miss at times.. but she honestly means well

Let’s give a little shout out to our Co Founder , she was diagnosed with Lymphoedema , a debilitating illness that affects the circulatory system , following a misdiagnosis in her early 20’s alongside a period of homelessness she found that she was being over medicated and not getting better .. in fact it changed the course of her life .

Post Self Pity ..

She went on to collaborate with her partner to launch an alternative catering service that supported the health of people from vulnerable backgrounds .. and has bagged us a few awards in the process

Our humble opinion ..

We have observed a rise in Fast Food take away’s which has led to an increase in Obesity , traditional healing methods have been shunned for over the counter medication

Access to cheaper booze brands has led to a high level of alchoholism in innercity communities and it is saddening to see our youth suffering from childhood diabetes

Our aim in 2016

We are determined to make our solution based service trigger a change in mindset and lifestyle

But what’s next in Spring 2016 ?

Spring Flu , Drinking the rainbow and another challenge

Spring greetings to one and all ..

Juice Lady here …

I Hope the Spring Equinox embraced you with good tidings and you’re preparing for new beginnings , projects and plans  ..

For me it started as an oxymoron , after delivering a workshop about healthy drinking ,.

Spring flu decides to knock me off my feet  ..

With the launch of the Juice academy looming and a  painful sore throat ,  this occurrence could have been a hurdle but I turned to the rainbow and copious amounts of Fresh Ginger Tea  .. 4 layers of clothes and new trolley in tow I headed to the Green Grocer

  • 4 Watermelons
  • 14 Cucumbers
  • 6 Zucchini
  • 10 Lemons
  • 10 Limes
  • 10 Gala Apples
  • 5 Cox Pippins
  • 5 Granny Smiths
  • 2 Bunches of Mint
  • 3 bags of Kale
  • 4 Bunches of Spinach
  • 2 Honeydew
  • A sizeable amount of Ginger
  • 7 Punnet’s of Blueberries
  • 2 Punnet’s of Strawberries
  • 10 Conference Pears
  • 5 Roache Pears
  • 10 Avocado’s
  • 1 Bunch of Red Seeded Grapes
  • 1 Hand of Banana
  • 1 Pumpkin
  • A range of superfoods , seeds and Spices later …

My Spring Flu eradication campaign had begun …

My Uncle informed me quite smugly , that it’d take at least 3 weeks to completely get rid of the pesky flu … up for the challenge , I dug out the Cerassie and Cinnamon Leaves … this called for the strong stuff

I’ve taken to mixing and blending everything from Apple to Zucchini , the most beneficial smoothie so far has to be

Hami Melon , Physalis , Banana and a blend of seeds …

Probably due to the fact Physalis was said to be used in cases of extreme Influenza and is boosting with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial  and anti-bacterial properties .

The affect of this blend could only be compared to the after effect of Oil pulling …

The fruit helps the lungs to dispel the offending depository and draws everything – I mean everything , to the surface –

word to the wise = not to be consumed before a social event , a cough or a sneeze can in actual fact bring about an embarrassing situation as I discovered recently !

Sorry Camera Man …

But in all honesty it’s a sign my body is responding to the nutrients, which means I’m alive !!

So what exactly is the gloopy stuff , no one wants to talk about ?

“Mucus is incredibly important for our bodies,” explains Michael M. Johns III, MD,

“It is the oil in the engine. Without mucus, the engine seizes.” but an overproduction can cause opposite effects as The famous herbalist Dr. Sebi says , he also advocates that a very good cure for all diseases is by alkalizing the body with an alkaline diet consisting of only vegetables, fruits, nuts, alkaline grains, and legumes, which remove mucus from the body.

So , I’m on a mission to eliminate the mucus

Check back in on the weekend for recipes and more update’s

Remember to drink your lemon and ginger tea to build up your immune system

Much Love

Juice Lady x
