Wow , It’s been an eventfull start to the month of April
Firstly , we’d like to give a massive shout out to Sufra Community Kitchen for allowing the troops to have full run of the space throughout the Easter Holiday , The staff at Sufra do amazing work in St Raphaels estate and surrounding areas of Brent from Food Academies to Community Dinners , the reality of Food Poverty in Brent was apparent during the week we visited , but the work and opportunities they offer help to put a smile on so many faces …
If you are unable to visit personally , you can help to make a difference by buying someone a hot meal …
Check back next week for an interview with Faheem , Project Worker
So , talking about Sufra brings us back to this time last week , we were inundated with little people , Juicers and blenders going full throttle
We counted a minimum of 52 little people who came through the Juice Academy door last week , many others had to be turned away due to health and safety and capacity at Sufra
Amazingly enough 4 of those who stayed the week , were 3 years of age and although they weren’t able to take part in all the activities, they took part in planting seeds , drawing and made fruity Salads and handed their homework journals in on a daily basis ..
When piloting or launching something new , there’s always a possibility of not getting it right .. that’s fine , you learn to add what you left out or take a few ingredients out
So there were definitely lessons learnt in regard to workshop delivery but all in all the stdents successfully
- Learnt the benefits of Juicing
- Took part in interactive Juicing Workshops
- Tested their taste buds
- Planted their own Root Vegetables and Flowers
- And enjoyed a day behind the scenes at Tesco
The amazing lesson ?
Children value the knowledge and responsibility given and embrace the transferred skill with confidence and pride and have a “How , can we make this better ” rather than “Whose going to make it better ” way of thinking and seeing things … they were an honour to work with .
It was a joy to see them getting their hands dirty … and sincerely having fun with their food … And an achievement to get 4 Bored teenagers involved , arriving daily and on time , throughout the week . So we’d like to give them a massive shout out for taking time out to help deliver the programme !
Another thank you to the parents turned facilitators in the week , although #TeamApple were disappointed that they didn’t get the chance to present their Apple Turnover’s they had fun practising …
We will upload pictures to the Gallery …
